Clearing out the bad energy.

I first heard about smudging about three years ago while I was at the Skin Care Institute. Since then i've wanted to give it a try, but just hadn't gotten around to it. I would think about it every so often, but never came across the dried sage needed to preform the smudging ritual. Then came October. I was in Ashlyn's room getting her ready for the day when I received a call that would change my life forever. My mom called to tell me that the plane my Grandfather was piloting had gone down and that search crews were trying to locate the wreckage. I literally fell to my knees and prayed aloud that my Grandfather survived the crash but if he didn't that he died quickly and without pain. I felt like someone had sucked the breath out of me. A day later we would learn that my Grandfather along with his two passengers did not survive the crash. I can honestly say that this was the hardest loss I've ever suffered and ever since that phone call I felt a dark, eerie energy in Ashlyn's room. For awhile afterward I didn't like to spend time in her room and at night when she woke up I didn't want to rock her back to sleep in there. This was a big change from the times I would spend sitting in her rocking chair while I was pregnant, dreaming of the day when she would be there in the beautiful space we created just for her.

My Grandfather was an amazing man and was always warm and loving so I knew that this wasn't his spirit I was feeling. I had mentioned how I was feeling to my Mom one day and she made me realize that the dark energy I was feeling was the sorrow I felt from losing someone so dear to my heart. I knew I had to do something to change the energy in the house, especially Ashlyn's room so I set out to find a good smudge stick. I finally came across one earlier this week while visiting Stargazers in Bellevue.

After dinner last night I lit the smudge stick and set out to clear the negative energy from our home. The women who sold me the smudge stick mentioned to say a prayer of gratitude for the removal of the bad energy from our home and pray that only good, loving energy enter and remain. So that is what I did. From top to bottom and everything in between I cleared our home and ourselves. I can  honestly say that our house does feel cleansed. I do want to smudge again in a few weeks to really make sure that I cleared all the negativity.

Here is my disclaimer, the dried sage does have a very strong smell. Less like dried sage and more like marijuana so maybe don't burn it before you have house guests unless you want to have to explain yourself.

If you are interested in learning more about smudging, here is a link for how to perform the cleansing ritual. Happy energy clearing!!
